Every Gift Creates a Lasting Legacy

At Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, we’re always thinking forward to the future. A child living in a safe and affordable home today is 116 percent more likely to graduate from college 20 years from now, compared to a child whose family does not own a home.
Life brings us so many unknowns, but one thing we are sure about is that the immense need for decent housing won’t go away in our lifetime. Please consider making a legacy gift to Habitat and continue championing the fight against poverty beyond your lifetime. You can change lives in the future, by including us in your charitable intentions right now.

Meet George and Julie

Over the years, Fitchburg residents George and Julie have long supported Habitat for Humanity of Dane County’s mission. In fact, George served on Habitat’s board of directors for 14 years, helping the organization succeed.
Even though the couple is no longer involved in Habitat’s day-to-day leadership, they are still as committed as ever to helping Habitat families succeed. “We’ve seen kids go from living in cars to nice, stable homes and it changes everything for them,” George said. “The kids see their parents being great role models – working hard, paying their mortgage and being completely invested in getting a home.”
Serving as role models for their own children, George and Julie recently updated their charitable intentions to include Habitat families for years to come. “We want to give kids a real start in life, and Habitat needs our help to do it,” Julie said. “The impact of our gift won’t be huge, but the meaning to our family will be.”
When asked why making a legacy gift to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County was important to them, George explained, “Habitat is a whole different environment than other non-profits. They aren’t just helping someone for one day. It’s a very deep commitment, and these houses will help families the rest of their lives.”
By supporting Habitat, George and Julie are proud to set a good example for their children. “We want to keep helping people get a start in life and show our kids what’s important to us,” Julie said.

Meet Linn and Jean

For Madison residents Linn and Jean, creating a lasting legacy that models their own successful lives is key. “We want to help others, help themselves,” Jean explained, “Habitat has already changed the lives of so many families and we want to continue that with our legacy gift.”
Linn and Jean both credit their families for instilling a strong value of helping their neighbors.
“My parents taught me to follow the Golden Rule,” Jean said, “They were very down to earth and hardworking.” Linn also credits his parents for bettering their lives through hard work and wants more Dane County families to have that opportunity, too. “Habitat really encourages those that are working hard, but just need some help,” Linn said, “I’ve seen this firsthand by serving on Habitat’s Housing Selection Committee and have been so impressed with the applicants. They are very deserving.”
Please considering joining Linn and Jean in making a legacy gift to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County and offering families a hand up, not a handout.
“Linn and I are proud and honored to be involved with Habitat,” Jean said, “We know our legacy gift will have a long-term impact, and with Habitat’s proven longevity, we know our gift will be well spent helping those who need it the most.”
