Whether it’s construction work, helping feed volunteers or serving on a Habitat committee, there are many opportunities available to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
Help Habitat families build their new homes! Construction volunteers are needed at all skill levels. Workdays are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. You must be at least 18. Visit our online registration calendar to find available build days.
Do you have high-level construction skills in areas such as foundation finishing (sealing & insulation), framing, roofing, installing siding, soffits and fascia, wall insulation, drywall hanging and finishing, painting, staining and varnishing, landscaping? You could help lead small groups of eager-to-learn volunteers.
Prepare and serve lunch or snack for Saturday building crews. This is a great way to meet Habitat volunteers and the families that are building with us.
Do you want to be on the construction site, but not involved with actual construction? Site hosts volunteer on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Site hosts help volunteers to sign in and fill out registration cards, coordinate coffee break preparation, general site organization, and lunch set-up and clean-up.
Road runners drive Habitat vehicles and transport tools and materials from our warehouse to specific job sites as well as to transport materials between job sites. In addition, we need volunteers who are able to deliver materials from our vendors to job sites or to our warehouse. This volunteer position requires a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, the ability to lift and load up to 50lbs and the willingness and desire to perform the duties required for some warehouse inventory work when waiting for construction deliveries. The vehicles that you will be required to drive for the most part do not require a commercial drivers license (CDL), but volunteers with that license designation would be gratefully appreciated.

Consider joining our Warehouse Team. The Habitat warehouse is located at 1114 Stewart St., Madison and is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm., Tuesday through Saturday.
Habitat Young Professionals
The Habitat Young Professionals [HYP] of Dane County is a diverse group of young professionals who share resources, time and talents to make a difference in the Madison community. We are dedicated to improving the world around us by helping families through giving a hand up not a hand out. HYP is building the next generation of Habitat volunteers, donors, and leaders. We host regular social hours, fundraising and volunteer opportunities. Join us in our mission, and network for a cause! Leadership opportunities await!
Help us achieve the BIG Picture! Committee volunteers help us to make important decisions that affect where and when we build, who is selected for a Habitat home, and how to extend our community. Committees include Benefit Dinner, Family Selection, Family Support, Finance, Construction, Tithe, Development and Communications. For more information, check out our full committee descriptions and contact information here.
Do you understand different kinds of databases? Are you good at data entry? Can you file alphabetically forward and backward? Want to help answer the phone and welcome visitors? Come spend a couple of hours a week with our friendly office staff on any or all of these tasks! Sign up to volunteer at the HFHDC office!
Green Team Member (Landscaping)
The Green Team landscapes the homes of HFHDC families. They also help the families choose and place their landscaping materials, train the families in the care and maintenance of their new landscaping, troubleshoot problems with landscaping and raise money for landscaping efforts through the annual plant sale. Most of our work is seasonal (May, June, September and early October).
