Donation Frequently Asked Questions

How is Habitat for Humanity of Dane County supported? Habitat is funded by the generosity of numerous individuals, groups, and organizations. Contributions from individuals, faith groups, businesses, foundations, proceeds from the Habitat ReStore, United Way of Dane County and monthly mortgage payments from Habitat homeowners all fund Habitat projects. In-kind donations of construction materials, services, and construction site lunches are also accepted and greatly appreciated.

Is my donation tax deductible? Yes, your donation to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County is tax-deductible and makes a long- term investment in your community.

Is it safe and secure for me to donate online? Absolutely. We use a secure server to collect and process your credit card or debit card transaction.

What will by donation support? Your donation will support our mission of creating simple, decent and affordable housing in Dane County. Depending upon the type of donation you make, you can designate the manner in which your donation will be used to accomplish the mission. Or, you can make an unrestricted donation so that we can use the money to fulfill our greatest need to accomplish our mission.

My company matches gifts to 501(c)(3) organizations. Is Habitat for Humanity of Dane County eligible to receive this type of donation? Yes, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County is a 501 (c) (3) organization and can provide you or your employer with the paperwork necessary to coordinate a matching gift.

Will Habitat for Humanity of Dane County rent, sell or trade my personal information? No. We will never rent, sell or trade any of your personal information.

I have building materials to donate to the Habitat ReStore or to a build site. What should I do? The Habitat ReStore has a list of items they accept, their hours, and lots more on their FAQ site. Please visit the Habitat ReStore web site for more information.

How do I know I can trust Habitat will be a good steward of my donations? Habitat is a respected, transparent nonprofit with excellent ratings from independent organizations. Habitat for Humanity of Dane County received Charity Navigator’s highest 4-Star Charity Rating in four out of the last five years!  We have also received the GuideStar Exchange Seal, demonstrating our commitment to transparency.
